By Maximum PC 0

As previously reported, Chris Cornell is dead.

The beloved musician, who fronted rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, reportedly killed himself in Detroit on Wednesday night, shortly after he performed on stage with the group that made him famous.

According to various outlets, a family friend stopped by Cornell’s hotel room after receiving a call of concern from the singer’s wife.

This friend discovered Cornell’s body on the bathroom floor and then called the police.

Sources tell TMZ that there was no blood at the scene and that Cornell was discovered with a “band” around his neck. He appears to have hanged himself.

The 52-year old, as the lead singer of Soundgarden, won two Grammy Awards in 1995, for the songs “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman.”

Cornell led the band through a spirited performance of the latter 1994 track at the Fox Theatre last night.

As Cornell belted out the first line (“Feel the rhythm with your hands…”) those in attendance roared in response, as you can see in the video below.

He also encouraged the crowd to sing along with the refrain.

The famous rocker later ended the band’s set with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “In My Time of Dying,” CNN reports, which means he sang lyrics that included the following:

In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn/All I want for you to do is take my body home.

Cornell had been open over the years about his history of drug and alcohol abuse – but his wife, Vicky, told TMZ this morning that her husband exhibited no signs of thinking about suicide.

She says there were no signs of depression in the days or weeks leading up to this tragic development.
